WINDOWS OWNED 20% BANDWIDTH - GET IT BACK

  • BY DEFAULT WINDOWS USES 20% OF BANDWIDTH FOR ITS OWN PURPOSE. YOU CAN GET IT BACK, BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE MUCH DIFFERENCE.
  • THE 20% BANDWIDTH RESERVE ONLY APPLIES WHILE WINDOWS IS DOWNLOADING UPDATES. THIS MEANS IF THERE IS A CRITICAL UPDATE, AND YOU HAVE WINDOWS SET TO DOWNLOAD, WINDOWS HAS THE RIGHT TO 20% OF THE BANDWIDTH TO COMPLETE THE DOWNLOAD. MEANING - THIS WOULD ONLY AFFECT YOU WHENEVER THERE IS A NEW UPDATE THAT YOUR COMPUTER DOWNLOADS, AND ONLY FOR A MINUTE OR TWO, GENERALLY DURING A TIME YOU'RE NOT USING YOUR COMPUTER. YOU SHOULD NOT CHANGE THIS SETTING.
  • THIS TRICK WILL NOT WORK IN WINDOWS 7 HOME BASIC / HOME PREMIUM EDITION. BECAUSE GROUP POLICY EDITOR IS NOT PROVIDED IN THESE WINDOWS EDITIONS.
  • Goto RUN & Type "gpedit.msc".
  • There Goto, COMPUTER CONFIGURATION --> ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES --> NETWORK --> QoS PACKET SCHEDULER.
  • In Right Pane Window you can see "Limit Reservable Bandwidth". See its More Description in Left pane Window about how much by default windows uses your bandwidth.

  • Double Click "Limit Reservable Bandwidth" --> Setting. Change it from "Not Configured" To "Enabled" & set the bandwidth Limit from 20% to 0%.
  • YOU ARE DONE... ALTHOUGH IT DOESN'T MAKE MUCH DIFFERENCE.
