ENABLING SYSKEY IN WINDOWS 7



  • SYSKEY IS THE UTILITY THAT ENCRYPTS THE HASHED PASSWORD FOR YOUR SAM DATABASE IN WINDOWS 7, SUING 128-BIT ENCRYPTION KEY. 
  • THE SYSKEY UTILITY CAN ALSO BE USED TO CONFIGURE A START-UP PASSWORD THAT MUST BE ENTERED TO DECRYPT THE SYSTEM KEY SO THAT WINDOWS CAN ACCESS THE SAM DATABASE.
  • THE SYSTEM KEY IS 16 BYTES USED BY WINDOWS FOR THE ADDITIONAL ENCRYPTION OF HASHES. THIS KEY IS STORED IN THE REGISTRY.

  • GOTO "RUN" & TYPE --> "syskey".
  • NEXT SCREEN YOU CAN SEE "ENCRYPTION ENABLED". CLICK ON "UPDATE".
  • NEXT SCREEN GENERATES "STARTUP KEY". CLICK ON "PASSWORD SETUP".
  • ENTER YOUR SYSKEY PASSWORD. CLICK OK.
NOW NEXT TIME YOU LOGIN. EVERY TIME IT ASKS FOR YOUR SYSKEY PASSWORD. DO NOT FORGOT YOUR SYSKEY PASSWORD.
